Shasta College Learning Resource Center – Online!

The holdings and resources of the Shasta College Learning Resource Center are available to online students. A library card is required to borrow books and DVDs from the bricks and mortar library. A library card is also essential for access to the Online databases and ebooks (described below).

 To obtain your library card:

  •  If you take classes at the main campus, stop by the Circulation Desk to apply for a card.
  •  If you take classes at an Extended Education site, visit your site's secretary.
  • If you are enrolled solely for online courses, complete this application and your card will be sent to you via snail mail http://library.shastacollege.edu/cardapp.html

The LRC  collects many resources with the online student in mind:

  • Magazine and Newspaper Articles
Over 4 million magazine and newspaper articles  are available via the  library's Articles & Databases link  (http://library.shastacollege.edu/databases.html).   The library currently subscribes to over 50 full text, online databases. http://library.shastacollege.edu/alphalist.html Coverage ranges from general current events (EBSCO Masterfile Premier and Proquest National Newspapers) to the controversial (Opposing Viewpoints) to the subject specific (OVID Nursing).  When you locate an article, options are provided to print , email , or download that article.   Reminder: when logging in from off campus, click on the  and have your library card handy.

  • Online eBooks
24/7 access to 15,000 (and growing!) texts from the NetLibrary e-books collection. http://library.shastacollege.edu/ebooksaccess.html Titles are selected to support the Shasta College curriculum. When searching the library catalog, online ebooks are easily identified by the phrase [electronic resource] after the book's title, the suffix [eb] after the book's call number.
  • Books
More than  80,000 books , DVDs, and videos are housed at the LRC collection at the main Redding campus.  You can search the LRC's holdings online via the Library Catalog, accessible  from the LRC’s main page at http://library.shastacollege.edu .  If you locate a book to borrow, place a request to have it checked out to you and sent to the closest Extended Ed. site for retrieval.  You can even renew your books online provided that you have your library card.
The LRC provides the following services to Extended Education students:

Reference Desk Assistance
There is always a librarian available to assist you by telephone (530) 225-4975) during hours when the Library is open.  For after hours assistance, contact Ask a  Librarian at http://library.shastacollege.edu/ask.htm .  You should receive a response within one business day.
