In order to participate in an online class from home, your system will
need to meet the following minimum requirements:
- Computer - Pentium-class or Macintosh PPC
- Operating System - Windows 98 or Mac OS
8 or above
- Hard Drive with at least 150 megabytes of free space
- 64 MB of RAM or above
- Recent Video & Sound Card
- Speakers
- Internet Service Provider - e.g. MSN, AT&T, Earthlink, AOL, etc.
- DSL, Cable or Satellite connection is highly recommended
- CD/ROM Player
- Internet Browser (please
refer to approved browser listing for CE6)
- Email Account
- WebTV is not compatible with CE6
**Keep in mind that even though
these are the minimum requirements, and will work with a basic online
course at Shasta College, each individual course may have course
material which might not be viewable with slow connectivity and/or older
operating systems and processors. Also, course content may be very
slow in obtaining or viewing due to slow connectivity and processor
speeds, that is not something that we are able to control on our end.
DSL or Cable connectivity is highly recommended.

The next screen is one that will detect your current operating
system. Confirm either your
Windows or
Macintosh operating system.
Select your current browser, and you will be taken to a page that
provides you with specific information on how to set up your
browser correctly. It is very important that you use a
compatible browser and configure your browser settings to work
effectively with CE 6.
AOL Users
If you use America Online (AOL) as your Internet Service Provider, you
will need the AOL version 4.0 or higher client and the Internet Explorer
5.5 sp2 browser. Do not use earlier versions of the AOL client with
earlier versions of Internet Explorer, as you will have difficulty
accessing many of our online features.

Connect to the Internet using AOL version 4.0 or higher
Open a private chat within AOL (this allows the AOL client to remain
open, without asking if you wish to disconnect while minimized)
Minimize AOL
Launch a recommended browser
